Scholar Update: Jernei Johnson

Dear Family and Friends,

I hope you are well!

I wanted to share a quick update about how my Trojan experience is going!

It is hard to believe that it is already time for midterm exams! I have adjusted to my college courses (Chemistry, Psychology, Pre-Calculus, and other elective courses) and I can say that Salpointe prepared me for the course rigor and time management. What I did not expect was how much the COVID experience would impact my college life. It helped me learn how to prioritize my focus and be appreciative of how I spend my time.

In addition, I am a KeckPrep Scholar. This program guides pre-medical students from volunteer experiences, academic advising on the courses to prepare for the medical school application process, and provides access to physicians that serve as mentors. I am also involved with the campus chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

During the summer, I once again partnered with the UA Black Alumni to award the second Breonna Taylor Scholarship to a UA student. Thank you to all of you that supported the scholarship drive! This year we increased the award to $2000!

Lastly, I have been able to launch my lash business here on campus! It has been a great way to meet my peers while connecting about USC and many other topics!

I am looking forward to my fall break next week and to successfully finishing my first semester of college in December!

Sincerely,

Jernei
